 | | The river Skawa | History
Grodzisko is considered to be the oldest human settlement in the valley of the River Skawa. This fact is connected with the prehistoric existence of the mysterious city and later the castle. Up till now, it is not know by whom it was built, destroyed and in which century it happened.
Between 1989 - 1990, the archaeologists examined the hill, which is now the only remains of the city and the castle. The results provide the evidence that the original settlement was established by the people of Luzyce culture (over 1000 years B.C.). The relicts of the cottages from this period that were found under the surface of the ground provide the proof for it. In the Middle Ages (10, 11, 12th century) the existence of the stronghold can be traced by the marks of hearth as well as by many ceramic foundings like plates, mugs, etc.
